TNT makes mark at Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2005
From April 22 to 24, 2005, Boao Forum for Asia 2005 was held in Boao, Hainan Province. More than 800 enterprisers, high rank government officials and renowned scholars from Asia, Europe and Australia attended the Annual Conference, including Jia Qinglin, Chairman of National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, John Howard, Prime Minister of Australia and Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Prime Minister of Malaysia. As a diamond sponsor, TNT's high ranking managers from the headquarters in Holland, Germany and China joined in this Annual Conference to network.
While adhering to the event theme of "Asia Searching for Win-Win", Annual Conference 2005 focused on the role Asia would play in changing world economy. The topics covered energy, monetary policies and exchange rate and renovation of IT industry. The program focused the discussions on the challenges Asia would face in its economic growth and the role it would play in world economic development through the talk in diplomatic and economic angle.
At the opening ceremony of the Forum on 23rd April, Peter Bakker, CEO of TNT Group was the only enterprise representative invited to deliver a keynote speech after the government official. Peter stated, "Since its inception in 2000, Boao Forum has been a strong promoter of regional cooperation and economic integration by creating excellent interactive platforms such as this to encourage dialogue and the exchange of ideas between Nations, Business and Academia. During this era of globalization and increasing competition, open dialogue is critical for fostering harmonious development and growth for everyone concerned. Certainly, as the world's leading global Express, Logistics and Mail Corporation with strong commitment to Asia, it is in my company's interest to support the growth of this region."
Different from the last three annual conferences, this year's conference attached high importance to those issues that were closed related to a company's sustained development such as corporate social responsibility. TNT was in full harmony with topic and displayed to all participants its corporate social responsibility with actual deed. At the prizing ceremony of the Invitational Golf Tournament in the evening of 22nd, Peter Bakker donated 200,000 RMB to WFP on behalf of TNT Group, which would be used to aid WFP's School Feeding program in Gansu Province, China. In the evening of 23rd, TNT organized "the Boao Forum for Asia Charity Evening" in collaboration with Boao Forum for Asia. With charity as the theme of the party, all the donations received then would be used to improve the education infrastructure of Yana Miao Minority Primary School of Yanan Village, Nansheng Town, Wuzhishan, Hainan.
Apart from that, TNT leaders met with a number of ranking government officials and enterprises management in the two-day conference. Through the Annual Conference, TNT not only successfully made known to all its firm confidence in its development in China, but also created greater goodwill for itself in China.
