Intended to train qualified professional for China's rapidly growing mail, express delivery, and logistics sectors

Shanghai, July 14, 2004 – TNT, a global provider of mail, express and logistics services, today announced the launch of TNT China University Undergraduate Internship Programme. TNT also announced that four undergrads from well-known Chinese universities were selected and sent to TNT headquarters in Amsterdam, Netherlands, for their internship. The programme is aimed at strengthening Sino-Dutch cultural exchange, as well as providing opportunities to Chinese talents to learn about world-class logistics management.

The Programme is part of TNT's global Young Talent and Leadership Development Programme. China's rapid growth in express, and logistics services has created a big demand for qualified professionals. "The Internship Programme will help Chinese students to get exposure to overseas culture, as well as provide working experience in a multinational corporate setting', said Peter Bakker, CEO and Chairman, TNT, who was the first to put forth the programme in China.

China has a great potential in mail, express and logistics services, and has become one of the key markets for TNT's future development.  "As the industry leader, TNT is committed to train more professionals. TNT is a globally recognised Investor in People corporation, and we believe more talents will be attracted to the industry in the future through the joint efforts with our partners." said Mr. Ken McCall, CEO, TNT China.

To attract best undergraduates for the programme, TNT sent an open invitation to major universities in Shanghai, including China Europe International Business School,Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, and Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade in May. 120 students were shortlisted based on the criteria of academic achievement and track record, potential leadership quality, reference by their university and professors, result orientation and personal qualities. After further review by TNT China, four outstanding students were finally selected for the 2-month internship. The four students would start with an introduction of "TPG Basics", and then move to different divisions of TPG for internship. Two months later, the students would come back from Amsterdam and continue their study in their respective University. They will be offered opportunities to pursue a career at TNT China upon graduation.

As a long-term plan, China University Undergraduates Internship Programme aims to select at least 20 students next year.

Since entering China market in 1985, TNT has dedicated itself to long-term development and contribution to the community. As a part of that commitment,  TNT held Walk the World Events in China in August 2003 and June 2004, in partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme. All the donations from the events went to support school children in Gansu, the poorest province in China.
