TNT Express upgrates to Boeing 737 on Istanbul route

TNT Express - the world's leading business to business express carrier - has announced plans to introduce a Boeing 737-300F aircraft five days a week on its Liège – Istanbul – Liège route starting on 7th September 2004. The 737 replaces the smaller BAe146 aircraft that currently operates on this route.

The change – which is the result of an increase in consignment volumes on the route – will see the service continue to depart from Istanbul at 21:55 local time, but it will arrive at the company's European air hub in Liège 85 minutes earlier than before.  The earlier arrival time will ensure greater connectivity with ongoing flights out of Liège and provide Turkish exporters with a faster and more reliable service.  TNT customers exporting to Turkey will also benefit from earlier deliveries as the 737 will arrive in Istanbul at 0810 rather than 0940.

Christian Drenthen, Managing Director of TNT's Worldwide Networks said, "We are constantly looking at new ways to address the growing needs of our customers.  By upgrading services into and out of Istanbul, we can offer a faster service when importing and exporting goods and are able to offer a Sameday service for document and non-document consignments to a greater number of customers in Turkey.

"The B-737 aircraft is a natural choice for the route in terms of capacity and range and allows us the flexibility to upgrade our services in line with rising consignment volumes."
