TNT Assembles a Huge Green Fleet in Beijing
(Shanghai, August 25, 2008) TNT, the global express company, quickly responded to the traffic vehicular restrictions during the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games by reinforcing its delivery capabilities for both international express services and domestic delivery services in China. TNT China invested in a “green fleet” of 70 delivery vehicles, that met the European Emission Standard III, to guarantee that customers continued to enjoy the same fast, reliable and convenient delivery services and excellent customer experience even during the Olympic period.
This “green fleet”, currently managed by TNT China International Express in Beijing and Tiandi Hoau, TNT’s wholly-owned domestic road transportation company, was issued the special delivery vehicular permit, by the Beijing Government, for ‘green’ vehicles. This meant that these vehicles were not affected by the traffic restriction rules by the government, including the odd-even traffic restriction, during the Olympic period. TNT’s green fleet is currently one of the largest fleets in China to be granted such a permit.
As the Chinese express industry prepared for the challenges posed by the traffic vehicular restrictions, TNT China responded quickly with an extensive contingency plan, which included the purchase of this “green fleet” of 70 delivery vehicles. Guided by its extensive experience managing road networks in Europe, TNT additionally invested in a fleet of orange-coloured bicycles to support small parcel deliveries in heavy traffic areas in Beijing. The combined usage of its “green fleet” and bicycles, has helped ensure smooth, restriction-free deliveries for TNT customers during the period of the Games.
Throughout this period, TNT also remained in close communications with related local government agencies, such as the customs and security authorities, so as to be updated on new changes and developments. TNT customers were constantly updated on the delivery status of their consignments through various communication channels.
Michael Drake, managing director of TNT Greater China, said: “Providing our customers with an excellent customer experience is at the heart of everything we do. Our investment in this “green fleet” has enabled us to continue to provide our customers with the same excellent customer service, which they have been used to, throughout the Olympic Games. Our customers recognise our efforts and are confident of our ability to deliver reliable and fast services all the time.”
