TNT Wins "Best Corporate Culture Management" and "Popular Employer" Awards in China
(Shanghai, China, 26 October 2009) – Today, TNT, the leading international express services provider, received an award for "Best Corporate Culture Management " and has also been voted, by the online community, as one of the most "Popular Employers", following its earlier ranking as one of the "100 Best Human Resource Management Companies in China 2009". The award, which is one of China’s most authoritative HR Management Awards, was organized by 51job Inc, a leading human resource services provider in China, together with a panel of judges from organizations such as the China-Europe International Business School (CEIBS), 21st Century Business Herald and the China Association for Labour Studies. The Wall Street Journal provided the exclusive international online media support for the award.
According to one of the panel judges from CEIBS, companies that rank as one of the "100 Best HR Management Companies in China" have "demonstrated a clear and recognized corporate philosophy through their company vision, mission, and values. More importantly, the company’s management philosophies and policies, especially in terms of its human resources policies and employee benefits systems, are clearly reflected in its corporate culture."
"TNT is humbled and delighted by this recognition, as it is a testimony of our efforts to invest in our people and also of the high-level of employee engagement within the organization, which has directly resulted in excellent rates of service satisfaction from our customers," said Iman Stratenus, Managing Director, TNT China International Express.
Continued Commitment to Investing in its People
While 2009 was a challenging year for companies across all industries, TNT remains committed to its investment in people and driving a customer-oriented corporate culture. "We are dedicated to our people-focused HR policies because we firmly believe that an excellent customer experience can only be delivered by passionate and loyal employees. These efforts are the reason that we have maintained our sustained growth and development, even in these challenging business times," added Iman.
TNT has been recognized internationally for its commitment to developing its people and growing its talents. TNT China received the international accreditation of Investor in People (IiP) in 2007, an achievement which, globally, TNT is the only company in the logistics industry to have achieved.
TNT China’s management mission has been defined by its focus on delivering an excellent customer experience. In 2008, TNT launched the "Sure we can" campaign, which captures the company’s ‘can do’ mentality and flexible attitude towards getting things done, whether it is for a customer, a fellow colleague or the community at large. To encourage its adoption, and to share the values of a customer-focused culture within the organization, TNT China’s senior management team embarked on ‘culture trips’ across the country early this year, with the aim of speaking to every single employee located in 34 cities over a period of 4 months. During these ‘culture trips’, the senior management team provided answers to over 3000 questions raised by employees. These visits demonstrate that the company is committed to building a common understanding on the importance of a strong corporate culture and delivering an excellent customer experience.
"Driven by our ‘can-do’ spirit, we will continue our efforts to drive significant contributions to the growth of the international express industry by investing in the development of our people so that they may become world-class leaders," said Helena Yang, HR director, TNT China International Express.
TNT strives to grow its people professionally through the management of a well-structured training system. To this end TNT has launched a full set of training programs under TNT China University, a corporate training facility in partnership with Shanghai Jiaotong University. Employees’ satisfaction rate with TNT University exceeds 90% and the amount of training provided to each employee annually is above the market average.
TNT has also established a rigorous internal communications system to encourage open, honest and transparent communications within the organization. The efforts include its internal corporate magazine, a regular CEO communication session, Meals with Managers, a periodic email-newsletter, the "Magic Box" Staff Suggestion Scheme and standardized bulletin boards and corporate posters. Employee engagement programs, such as the National TNT Friendship Cup Sports Competition and TNT Family Day, are also organized to further strengthen cohesion and cooperation among its people.
Making Employees Feel Proud
As a company that firmly believes in making positive contributions to the community in which it operates, TNT has engaged its employees to drive various corporate social responsibility programs in China. Through TNT’s partnership with the United Nations World Food Program, employees across China participated in a charity walk and donation drive to raise awareness towards fighting hunger. For the past four years, through the Orange Care program, which is a partnership with the China Youth Development Foundation (CYDF), employees have been sponsoring and helping AIDS orphans in Yunnan at their own initiative. Every year, employees visit their sponsored children in Yunnan, in addition to organizing internal charity auctions and lunches to raise money for these children’s education. Employees are also highly engaged in promoting Planet Me, the company’s CO2 emissions reduction program and other CSR projects, such as the earthquake relief program.
"Engaging our people in our numerous meaningful community outreach activities has been a critical and effective platform to inspire passion and motivate loyalty amongst our people to build TNT into the company in China to work for," Iman highlighted. "These awards are a tribute to all our staff and we will make sure that all our employees share in this prestigious recognition."
